The Merced County Mosquito Abatement District Board of Trustees consists of nine members; six are appointed from the incorporated cities in the County, and the Merced County Board of Supervisors appoint three members (one at-large, one western rural, and one northern rural representatives). The members serve two or four-year terms of office, with no limitation. The Board meets every third Tuesday of the month at 4:00 p.m. The purpose of this Board is to act as the governing body pertaining to all matters involving the operations of the district and to establish policy and operational guidelines.
The Merced County Mosquito Abatement District notified the city that the vacancy has been open since May 2023. Previously, William “Adam” Cox has graciously served and has since resigned in May of 2023. The Merced County Mosquito Abatement District Board of Trustees has indicated that Council may appoint a member of the Council or a willing citizen.
On May 20, 2024, Council agreed to have the City Clerk Department begin recruitment for the Merced County Mosquito Abatement District. The City Clerk Department sent an email to all current Board Members and Commissioners of the City of Merced to see if any were interested in filling the City Representative role. We received qualifying applications from Arial King, Jose Ramirez, Noah Venegas, Sabrina Abong, and Sandra Hay.
