SUBJECT: Accepting and Appropriating Grant Funding in the Amount of $750 for FY 2024-2025 from United States Tennis Association Northern California Operating Materials, Services and Supplies (Tennis Rackets, Balls)
REPORT IN BRIEF
Considers accepting and appropriating grant funding in the amount of $750 from USTA for H.I.T.S. (Honesty, Integrity, Teamwork, Sportsmanship) tennis equipment grant.
RECOMMENDATION
City Council - Adopt a motion:
A. Accepting $750 grant funds from United States Tennis Association Northern California in Fund 1018-Parks & Community Service; and,
B. Increasing contribution revenue in the amount of $750 and appropriating the same to Operating Materials, Services and Supplies in Fund 1018-Parks and Community Services; and,
C. Authorizing the City Manager to execute the necessary documents.

Previous Council Meeting
On May 19, 2025, Council continued this item due to the amount of Council Members present at the Council Meeting. This item required 5 affirmative votes and there were only four Council Members present at the Council Meeting.
Previous Discussion
The City of Merced has been approved for an equipment grant from USTA NorCal to implement a tennis program H.I.T.S (Honesty, Integrity, Teamwork, Sportsmanship). H.I.T.S. is a low-cost/free tennis program for kids 10 and under that incorporates the fundamentals of tennis, sportsmanship and life skills enrichment. With support from the USTA NorCal, H.I.T.S. is a fun and easy program that includes training and resources to run a tennis program at our local tennis courts, blacktop or indoor gym. This summer, we plan on holding four tennis session, two weeks for each session. There will be a total of two session for H.I.T.S. 1 (Beginner) and two H.I.T.S. 2 (Intermediate). Each session can accommodate up to 15 youth, hoping to serve at least 60 youth by the end of the summer. Programming will take place at Applegate Park on the Teal Top Hockey courts.
IMPACT ON CITY RESOURCES
Once it is accepted and appropriated to Fund 1018-Parks and Community Services, Division 4030 (Recreation), this $750 will be available within the FY2024-25 budget to help with costs for this program.
Please note that this item requires five affirmative votes for approval.
