DISCUSSION

The Parks and Community Services Director received an application to rename the Merced Youth Sports Complex in honor of Mr. Dave Nannini. The application was reviewed and found to be in compliance with review standards set forth in Administrative Policy A-20. A Public Hearing was scheduled for the May 23rd, 2022 Recreation and Parks Commission at which the subcommittee reviewed the application, heard public testimony, and provided their support for the application. The Recreation and Parks Commission voted to submit the application to council for formal adoption. Statements of support from the Public Hearing and application provided through the application.

Dave Nannini was a lifelong resident who began his involvement in sports as a parent of young athletes. Dave worked with Merced Youth Baseball for over 40 years through which he spent several years coaching teams and individual kids at the Youth Sports Complex. He coached, served on the board of directors for Merced Youth Baseball, and served as the organization’s president. He spent decades working with youth soccer organizations as well and he played a crucial role in the construction and use of the Youth Sports Complex. Unfortunately for our community, Mr. Nannini recently passed but the community would like to carry on his legacy through the renaming of this sports complex in honor of his years of dedication to this facility and the thousands of youths he ensured had a place to play ball in Merced.

IMPACT ON CITY RESOURCES

No appropriation of funds is needed.
