AIRPORT TERMINAL REPLACEMENT PROJECT

Airport and Engineering staff continue to regularly meet with the contractor Diede Construction and design consultants Mead & Hunt focusing on construction progress, project schedule and changes as needed.

Economic Development Associate Karen Baker continues coordinating with Mead & Hunt regarding interior design, functionality, and furnishing.  The desired outcome of the interior is to be welcoming and reflect the culture of the San Joaquin Valley and City of Merced.

As construction progresses, staff anticipates the terminal project to be completed by Fall of 2025 (weather permitting.)

Terminal replacement for June is currently at 75% to date of work.  Finish work of the interior (counters, sinks, wall boards) and exterior siding has been completed along with permanent windows have been installed. PA system has been installed and City staff went through a training course provided by the vendor.  Card lock door system has been installed for electronic door access.

AIRPORT ADMINISTRATION

Public Outreach: Tours were provided, and positive feedback was received.

Airport Manager Williams spoke at the Merced Kiwanis Club in May about the Airport and New Terminal.

Airport Manager Williams whet to Washington DC as part of the “One Voice” delegation of local representatives representing Merced County through Merced County Association of Governments, to speak with the FAA with regards to future airport funding. Williams also met with the Department of Transportation regarding the EAS program.

AIRPORT IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS

The FAA RTR project is 85% completed.  The FAA will need to connect to MID along Macready Drive to complete the installation.

PMMP with RS&H is being finalized to deliver bid documents for the Crack Seal and Seal Coat Project by July 2025.

Airport Manager Williams worked with the State Water Resources Control Board and Merced County Environmental Health for the airports current fuel tanks to certify compliance. The result is that the Airport does meet the current requirements outline by the State Water Resources Control Board and Merced County Environmental Health.

Equipment is being installed to upgrade Airport Gates to an electronic device that will allow authorized tenants to unlock gates for access onto the aircraft operating area. The project is at 50% currently and is being tested through the IT Department.  We are anticipating a late summer start date to ensure reliability of the new electronic gate system.
