DISCUSSION

The project consists of, in general, the design and installation of new play equipment, swing set, picnic tables, as well as all project closeout, cleanup, and corrective work.  The approximate playground area is 5,350 square feet and is located within Fahrens Park at the southwest corner of R Street and Buena Vista Drive.

In September 2021, staff solicited Request for Proposals for the Fahrens Park Playground Equipment Replacement Project.

Staff received two (2) proposals with sealed bids.  Proposals were received from Miracle Playsystems and SPEC Play Equipment for the playground replacement project.

Each proposal was evaluated by staff. Evaluation criteria included, but was not limited to: quality of design, play value, quality and durability of equipment, uniqueness, compliance with the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) and other standards, as well as the reliability and customer service of the manufacturer.  Ultimately, Miracle Playsystems proposal meets the needs of the City and staff recommends awarding the contract.  The proposals were ranked as follows with 100 being the maximum score:

Miracle Playsystems                                                                                                                              96

SPEC Pay Equipment                                                                                                                              91

The following is the proposed budget for the project:

Construction

$274,999.15

Contingency (Engineering, Testing & Inspection)

$37,000

TOTAL:

$311,999.15

Citizen input will be solicited regarding playground equipment design and colors.  More than likely, the Town Hall meetings will serve as the venue.
