REPORT IN BRIEF

Considers awarding a Construction Contract to Tennyson Electric LLC in the amount of $1,093,750 for the Safe Streets Streetlight Retrofit.

 

RECOMMENDATION

City Council - Adopt a motion:

 

A.  Awarding the Safe Streets Streetlight Retrofit, Project CP230002 to Tennyson Electric LLC, in the amount of $1,093,750; and,

 

B.  Authorizing the City Manager to execute the necessary documents and to approve change orders not to exceed 20% of the total contract; and, 

 

C.  Authorizing the Finance Officer authorization to make necessary budget adjustments.

AUTHORITY

Charter of the City of Merced, Article XI, Section 1109 - Contracts on Public Works.

 

Merced Municipal Code Chapter 3.04, Article IV - Public Works Contracts.

 

CITY COUNCIL PRIORITIES

As provided for in the 2024-25 Adopted Budget.

 

DISCUSSION

The work to be performed includes, but is not limited to, the removal of High-Pressure Sodium (HPS) streetlights and replacing them with Light Emitting Diodes (LED) lights.

 

There is a need to retrofit 2,500 streetlights from HPS to LED technology. The new streetlights will increase safety for residents, pedestrians, and drivers in neighborhoods throughout the City of Merced.

 

Staff prepared plans and specifications, and the project was advertised for bids. Bids were opened on July 18, 2024, with the following results:

The Engineer’s Estimate for Construction was $1,100,000 - $1,200,000.

 

The following is the proposed budget for the project:

 

Construction

$   1,093,750.00

Contingency (20%)

$      218,750.00

Engineering, Testing & Inspection

$        54,687.50

TOTAL

$   1,367,187.50

 

IMPACT ON CITY RESOURCES

Project CP230002 is established as a Capital Improvement Project to be funded by Measure C and multiple Maintenance Districts (MD) and Community Facility Districts (CFD). There is sufficient funding to complete this project.
