REPORT IN BRIEF

Considers the authorization to approve the Memorandum of Understanding Between the United States Fish and Wildlife Service - San Luis National Wildlife Refuge Complex and the Merced City Fire Department for technical education exchange.

 

RECOMMENDATION

City Council - Adopt a motion approving the Memorandum of Understanding and authorizing the City Manager or the Deputy City Manager to execute all necessary documents.

CITY COUNCIL PRIORITIES

This recommendation is consistent with City Council’s priority in establishing and strengthening community and regional partnerships to enhance the quality of life.

 

DISCUSSION

The City of Merced Fire Department is requesting the Merced City Council to approve a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and the Merced City Fire Department for the San Luis National Wildlife Refuge Complex.  The purpose of the agreement is to coordinate and provide cooperative training and field experience between the US Fish and Wildlife Service and the City of Merced Fire Department.  In return, the City of Merced Fire Department will provide emergency medical training at the initial First Responder or Professional Rescuer level and annual refresher at the First Responder, Emergency Medical Technician Basic level.  Both agencies agree to provide services at no cost to the reciprocal agency

 

By approving this document, this will allow the US Fish and Wildlife and City of Merced Fire Department to conduct reciprocal training.

 

IMPACT ON CITY RESOURCES

No appropriation of funds is needed, all support will be provided by existing staff.
