DISCUSSION

The Merced Fire Department is currently in the design phase of the Merced Regional Fire Training Center.  Included in the design is an office and conference room/storage building for fire department members, city employees and community members to conduct administrative functions as well as participate in a meeting environment.  A typical portable classroom capable of holding thirty students with instructors’ ranges between $100,000 and $300,000 dollars.  The savings to the overall cost of the project is of significant value considering current cost of materials and services. The donation of the building creates very limited impact to the $3 Million donated by Senator Anna Caballero in 2022.

IMPACT ON CITY RESOURCES

The fire department will utilize funding donated in 2022 by Senator Anna Caballero to move the buildings to the Merced Yosemite Regional Airport for temporary storage. The initial move is at a cost of $16,000 until the location on the training site is prepared at which the second move and installation will be an additional $16,000 for a total of $32,000.
