DISCUSSION

The Public Works Department Streets Division desires to upgrade audible pedestrian electronic components at 14 traffic signals near schools.  The upgrade will replace electronic control equipment, mounting hardware, push buttons and signs, which are designed to provide both a push button, with a raised vibrating tactile arrow on the button, along with a variety of audible sounds for different pedestrian signal functions.  The items acquired through JAM Services will be installed by the City of Merced Public Works Department.

The project will include the following 14 traffic signals:

1. Olive Ave & Park Ave

2. Childs Ave & N St

3. 21st St & Glen Ave

4. 20th St & R St

5. 22nd St & R St

6. Olive Ave & G St

7. Yosemite Ave & M St

8. Parsons Ave & Childs Ave

9. Childs Ave & Coffee St

10. 26th St & G St

11. Loughborough Dr. & R St

13. G St & Gerard Ave

14. G St & Childs Ave

Staff prepared bid specifications for the desired accessible pedestrian signal components and the invitation for bids was advertised both in the Merced County Times newspaper and the City’s website.  Bids were publicly opened on September 10, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., with JAM Services submitting the only bid of $97,901.30.
