SUBJECT: Authorization to Accept and Appropriate Grant Funding in the Amount of $750 from Northern California Tennis Foundation to Purchase Supplies for U.S.T.A. Tennis Hits Program
REPORT IN BRIEF
Considers approving and appropriating grant funding in the amount of $750 from Northern California Tennis Foundation in the Contributions and Donations account to Supplies and Services to purchase supplies for our Tennis Program.
RECOMMENDATION
City Council - Adopt a motion:
A. Accepting grant funds from Northern California Tennis Foundation Contributions and increase revenue in account 024-1209-360.02-01 - Recreation Programs-Contributions and Donations in the amount of $750; and;
B. Appropriating the same to account 024-1209-542-29-00 - Recreation Programs-Supplies and Services; and
C. Authorizing the City Manager or the Deputy City Manager to execute the necessary documents.

DISCUSSION
The Northern California Tennis Foundation awarded the City of Merced a grant in the amount $750 to support the U.S.T.A. Tennis H.I.T.S. program. The grant will help cover tennis equipment cost such as tennis rackets, nets, and balls. This grant helps keep the cost low and free to participants. Program is held in the summer with (4) two-week sessions for introductory and intermediate classes. All three sessions were filled last year registering 20 participants per session with 60 youth totals with a waitlist. This is a popular program amongst the community where at the end of the summer, participants have an opportunity to attend the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic in San Jose where the tournament is held at San Jose University Tennis Center. This is the longest running women-only professional tennis tournament in the world and is the first stop of the US Open Series. Participants have a chance to attend Kids Day, meet professional players, and attend a professional game.
IMPACT ON CITY RESOURCES
Once it is accepted and appropriated, this $750 will be available within the FY2021-2022 budget to help with costs for summer programming.
