REPORT IN BRIEF

Considers awarding a construction contract in the amount of $558,883.00 to Agee Construction Corporation for Project No. 117038 - V Street Improvements 16th Street to 18th Street funded Measure V and RSTP.

 

RECOMMENDATION

City Council - Adopt a motion:

 

A.  Awarding a bid for V Street Improvements 16th Street to 18th Street, Project No. 117038, to Agee Construction Corporation in the amount of $558,883.00; and,

 

B.  Authorizing the City Manager or designee to execute the necessary documents and to approve change orders not to exceed 10% of the total contract.

AUTHORITY

Charter of the City of Merced, Article XI, Section 1109 - Contracts on Public Works, and Merced Municipal Code Chapter 3.04, Article IV - Public Works Contracts.

 

CITY COUNCIL PRIORITIES

As provided for in the 2021-22 Adopted Budget.

 

DISCUSSION

The work to be done consists of the removal of 15-inches of existing roadway and installation of a 3-inch asphalt concrete over 12” of Full Depth Reclamation (FDR). The work also includes removal of existing curb & gutter, sidewalk, and alley approaches and installation of ADA ramps, curb & gutter, sidewalk, alley approach, traffic loops, striping, signage, and valley gutters. Additionally, the V Street south bound right turn pocket (turning right from V Street onto 16th Street) will be extended to Main Street, providing a dedicated right turn lane.

 

Staff prepared plans and specifications, and bids were opened on June 1, 2021, with a total of six bid submissions:

3.                     Avison Construction, Inc.                     $ 566,264.00

4.                     DOD Constructions                     $ 626,387.75

6.                     Agee Construction Corporation                      $ 558,883.00

 

The engineer’s estimate for construction was $589,571.50

 

The following is the proposed budget for the project:

IMPACT ON CITY RESOURCES

This project was established as a Capital Improvement Project to be funded by Measure V and RSTP funds. Funding is available to complete the project.
