DISCUSSION
As part of the 2024/25 Budget, the City Council allocated $100,000 for art installations and events throughout Merced, with a specific focus on establishing an honorary arts district in Downtown Merced. To effectively mark and promote this area, the Future Arts Projects Subcommittee recommends issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the design of arts district signage to be installed around the district's boundaries.
These signs would serve as a key element in visually defining the arts district, helping both residents and visitors easily recognize the area as a vibrant cultural hub. The signage would not only help draw attention to the district but also highlight the area's artistic identity, contributing to the overall branding of Downtown Merced as a center for creativity and cultural engagement. Additionally, well-placed signage could encourage foot traffic, support local businesses, and foster a stronger sense of community pride.
The subcommittee believes that these signs would be valuable in promoting the district's growth and visibility, aligning with the City Council’s vision for a dynamic arts-focused area in the heart of Downtown. An officially identified honorary arts district would also enhance the area’s appeal to grantors and funders, increasing opportunities for financial support and investment.
