REPORT IN BRIEF

Considers the approval of the Professional Services Agreement with the Kiwanis Club of Greater Merced Foundation for a not to exceed amount of $500,000 for ARPA Non-Profit Support Funding.

 

RECOMMENDATION

City Council - Adopt a motion:

 

A.  Approving the Professional Services Agreement with the Kiwanis Club of Greater Merced Foundation for an amount not to exceed $500,000 for ARPA Non-Profit Support Funding; and,

 

B.  Authorizing the City Manager or the Deputy City Manager to execute the necessary documents.

History and Past Action

 

During the December 6, 2021 Public Hearing, City Council approved $1,500,000 for non-profit support funding as part of the ARPA funds allocation.  At the April 18, 2022 Council meeting, City Council approved the following non-profit organizations and award amounts.

Current Action

 

The Kiwanis Club scope of work is to provide a safe, fun place of recreation and entertainment for the children of Merced through the Kiddieland amusement park. Kiddieland operates on donations from various community organizations (see attachment 2).The Kiddieland amusement park also assists high school students in developing community service skills. Students that belong to Key Clubs of Merced High School and Golden Valley High School and local Police Explorers volunteer their time to provide additional help to run the amusement park.

 

ARPA funds will be used to make up revenue loss experienced during COVID-19 and to assist in general maintenance and operational costs.

 

Staff is requesting approval of the Professional Services Agreement with the Kiwanis Club, in a not to exceed amount of $500,000, to provide these youth services, and for the City Manager or Deputy City Manager to execute the necessary documents. 

 

IMPACT ON CITY RESOURCES

Funding is available in the ARPA Fund for Non-Profit Support, account number 087-0201-512.29-00 243021.
