DISCUSSION

Staff was approached by members of the Merced Camelot Owners Association (Camelot) asking for street sweeping services.  As a gated homeowners association Camelot has private streets, which are not typically swept by the City.  However, the individual members of Camelot pay the City rate for refuse.

As Council will remember, the approved refuse rate provides the citizens of Merced with a variety of related services including street sweeping and the rate cannot be separated into individual components.

Given that street sweeping is being paid for and desired by the members, but not provided by the City on the private streets of Merced Camelot Owners Association, the City Attorney’s office has drafted an agreement (Attachment 1) for Council consideration.  The City will provide regular street sweeping services, according to the schedule of the surrounding area, and Camelot will provide access to its streets and indemnify the City for performing street sweeping services on Association property.

Therefore, Staff recommends Council approve an agreement between the City of Merced and Merced Camelot Owners Association to provide street sweeping services.

IMPACT ON CITY RESOURCES

There is no impact on City resources.  Refuse rates currently paid by Camelot members include street sweeping, and street sweepers operate adjacent to the area at this time.
