DISCUSSION

The service pistols currently used by the Police Department have exceeded their recommended service life. After conducting testing and evaluating replacement options, the Department selected the GLOCK 45 Gen 5 9mm pistol as its new standard duty weapon. The GLOCK 45 Gen 5 is also used by the Merced County Sheriff’s Department and Merced College. Standardizing the Department’s duty weapon with these local law enforcement partners promotes interoperability and allows the agencies to utilize compatible equipment and resources when responding to mutual-aid incidents or other urgent collaborative law enforcement needs.

To obtain competitive pricing for standardized equipment, staff solicited quotes from LC Action Police Supply, Adamson Police Products, and Gun Gallery, which staff identified as the only authorized GLOCK law enforcement dealers serving California. Adamson Police Products and LC Action Police Supply submitted quotes.

Adamson Police Products quoted $113,257.03, while LC Action Police Supply submitted the lower quote of $106,327.42. Staff therefore recommend purchasing the equipment from LC Action Police Supply. The proposed purchase includes 120 GLOCK 45 Gen 5 pistols, duty holsters, and related accessories necessary to outfit the Department.

The Department also intends to trade in eligible existing duty weapons to LC Action Police Supply. The final number of firearms eligible for trade-in has not yet been determined. Any trade-in credit received will be applied toward the purchase price and will reduce the City’s final cost. In no event will the total purchase amount exceed $106,327.42.
