CITY COUNCIL PRIORITIES

Addresses Council’s 2021-2022 priority for replacement of playground equipment.

DISCUSSION

The project consists of, in general, the removal of existing play equipment, as well as the supply and installation of new playground equipment at seven mini-parks throughout Merced, including Little Angels Park, 12th & G Street Park, the Love Veasely Family Park, Benjamin Tanager Park, Frederick Douglas Park, Hansen Park, and Santa Fe Strip Park 3.

Staff issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Mini Park Playground Replacement Project through the California Multiple Award Schedule (CMAS) delivery method. Utilizing a CMAS delivery method allows the City to realize a savings on the playground equipment pricing.  The City has used the CMAS process in the past with great success.

Four (4) vendors responded to the RFP, including: Dave Bang Associates, KYA Services, Park Planet, and Specified Play Equipment.  The proposals were evaluated by staff on criteria including design, quality and durability of equipment, uniqueness, compliance with the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) and other standards, as well as reliability and customer service of the manufacturer.

After careful consideration, staff recommends Council award the proposal and approve a Statement of Service with Park Planet for the playground replacement project.

IMPACT ON CITY RESOURCES

This project was established as a Capital Improvement Project and account 085-1120-637.65-00-122014 contains sufficient funding to complete the project.
