SUBJECT: Authorization to Accept and Appropriate a Donation of Eight Thousand One Hundred Sixty-Six Dollars and Sixty-Two Cents ($8,166.62) from the Merced Police Officers Association (MPOA) to be Used to Purchase a Police Dog for the Merced Police K9 Unit
REPORT IN BRIEF
Considers accepting and appropriating a donation of eight thousand one hundred and sixty-six dollars and sixty-two cents ($8,166.62) from MPOA to offset the costs of purchasing a Police Dog.
RECOMMENDATION
City Council - Adopt a motion:
A. Accepting a donation of $8,166.62 from MPOA for use in the Merced Police K9 Unit; and,
B. Increasing Contributions and Donations revenue account #001-1001-360-02-01 in the amount of $8,167 and appropriating the same amount to account #001-1001-523-43-00 to offset the costs of purchasing a police dog for the Merced Police K9 Unit; and,
C. Authorizing the Mayor to execute the Donation Acceptance Agreement.

DISCUSSION
The Merced Police Department has received a donation from the Merced Police Officers Association (MPOA), located in the City of Merced. MPOA President Nathaniel McKinnon presented the check to the Merced Police Department as a donation for the purchase of a police dog for the Merced Police K9 Unit. MPOA President Nathaniel McKinnon advised that K-9 Police Sergeant Rinder and MPOA members organized a K9 fundraiser dinner with the Rotary Club and raised $8,166.62. The Merced Police Department is requesting to use the funds to offset the costs of purchasing a police dog, equipment, and supplies for the Merced Police K9 Unit.
The total cost of bringing on an additional K9 to the Department is approximately $32,500. The acceptance of this donation will be added to a donation from the Harvest Church in the amount of $10,000.00 to bring the total donated amount to $18,166.62. The additional funds needed will be budgeted in fiscal year 2021-22 budget.
IMPACT ON CITY RESOURCES
Accepting the $8,166.62 to Contributions and Donations account 001-1001-360-02-01 and supplemental appropriation of the same amount to account 001-1001-523-43-00 this will help offset part of the costs for purchasing Police K-9 dog, equipment, and supplies.
