REPORT IN BRIEF
Consider adopting Resolution revising the Job Description and Salary Range for the Public Works Director to become single incumbent position.

RECOMMENDATION
City Council - Adopt Resolution 2015-40, A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Merced, California, amending the personnel allocation in the Public Works Department by deleting one Public Works Director position and amending the Job Description and Salary Range for the Public Works Director.

DISCUSSION
On January 19, 2010, City Council approved the job description and salary range for Public Works Director to allow for two incumbents in the position. This was due to organizational needs and personnel availability at that time. At this time both positions are expected to be vacant and it is recommended that the position be revised back to the single incumbency.

The job description was revised to combine Operations functions and Water Resources and Reclamation functions under a single position. The salary range was reduced in 2010 due to the fact that the responsibility for the department was shared.

The reorganization in 2010 achieved the goals established for the two departments. First, the operations department was able to improve the efficiency of each organizational unit.
