DISCUSSION

The City of Merced has experienced a history of turnover in the Chief of Police position for several years.  As a result of the recent recruitment efforts conducted by Bob Murray and Associates, LLC, it is recommended that the base salary for the Chief of Police be modified by approximately 7.5% to accommodate the most recent efforts.  This adjustment will allow for the full-time appointment.  It is anticipated that with this modification, an appointment will be forthcoming.

Resolution 2023-66 as proposed will increase the base salary for the Chief of Police Position from $186,091.44 to $200,000.11, with the inclusion of the existing COVID Premium.

IMPACT ON CITY RESOURCES

Sufficient funding is available in the FY 2023-24 adopted budget to allow for this adjustment.  No additional appropriation is requested at this time.
