Introduction of Ordinance to amend Section 15.32.080, "State Connection Regulations - Backflow Protection Apparatus (BPA)," to comply with new regulations that require all water suppliers to follow the most recent version of the State of California Water Board's Cross Connection Control Policy Handbook, the regulatory document used to create the City of Merced Water Division's Cross Connection Control Plan.
RECOMMENDATION
City Council - Adopt a motion introducing Ordinance 2586, an Ordinance of the City Council of the City of Merced, California, amending Section 15.32.080, "State Connection Regulations - Backflow Control Devices," of the Merced Municipal Code.

DISCUSSION
The State Water Board under the authority of Safe Drinking Water Act and various Assembly Bills has replaced the California Code of Regulations "Title 17" with the "Cross Connection Control Policy Handbook" (CCCPH). The objective of the CCCPH is to protect public health through the establishment of standards intended to ensure public water systems' potable water supplies will not be impacted by backflow of non-potable liquids or other substances.
