REPORT IN BRIEF
Second reading and final adoption of an Ordinance amending Chapter 10.20.190 - "Warrants - Stop Signs" of the Merced Municipal Code by removing the existing language of "traffic committee" and replacing the wording with "city engineer or his/her designee" to align with restructuring.
RECOMMENDATION
City Council - Adopt a motion adopting Ordinance 2589, an Ordinance of the City Council of the City of Merced, California, Amending Chapter 10.20.190 "Warrants - Stop Signs".

DISCUSSION
Ordinance 10.20.190 of the Merced Municipal Code dictates the minimum warrants required to install new stop signs in the City. In the current ordinance, the Traffic Committee or the City Engineer are the responsible parties to determine if the request meets the required warrants. On February 2, 2026, City Council approved the dissolution of Traffic Committee.
Ordinance 2589 updates this ordinance to remove Traffic Committee, leaving the City Engineer as the responsible party, to reflect the City Council's action on February 2, 2026, dissolving the Traffic Committee.
Previous Actions
The City Council heard this item at their February 17, 2026, meeting, introducing Ordinance 2589. The item passed and is now before City Council for a second reading and final adoption.
