RECOMMENDATION
City Council - Adopt a motion adopting the Fire Department Strategic Plan.

DISCUSSION
Merced Fire Department has a rich community history and to said point, has been organized for the last 150 years. Merced Fire Department administration took the opportunity to reflect on the service to the community and also engage the community for the next 150 years by creating a Strategic Plan. MFD's last Strategic Plan was created in 2011. As a council goal the creation and adoption of a 5-year Strategic Plan was identified.

MFD solicitated the interest and engagement of the community to form the 2023 Strategic Plan Committee. The committed consists of community leaders from the fire department, business community, real estate community, health care community, insurance community, education community, and community organizations.

The initial kickoff meeting fell in line with the formation of the Merced Fire Department exactly 150 years earlier, to the exact date, April 14th, 2023. The group met at city hall just as their counterparts did 150 years prior. The topics were very similar, discuss what we can do better to protect our community. 5 meetings were held, one at each fire station, and 5 separate topics were discussed. The topics were EMS Service Delivery, Fire Prevention, Fire Department Deployment, Budget, and Community Relations.
