DISCUSSION

During the November 16, 2023, Arts and Culture Advisory Commission (ACAC) meeting, staff provided an update on the condition of utility box art. Staff is continuing work and will provide an update at the March 21, 2024, ACAC meeting.

The 2021 Utility Box Beautification Project featured local artists selected by the City Council from the ACAC’s recommendation. A Request for Proposals was sent out and Artists submitted design proposals to the ACAC for approval and recommendation to the City Council. Each artist was paid $750 for their work.

The purpose of the Utility Box Beautification Project was to enhance the streetscape appeal in Downtown Merced through art.

This report shows the current condition of each location.

Staff recommends bringing this item to a future meeting to discuss a potential utility box maintenance plan.
