REPORT IN BRIEF

Considers approving a Legal Services Agreement - Litigation Matters relating to various litigation matters.

 

RECOMMENDATION

City Council - Adopt a motion:

 

A.  Approving a Legal Services Agreement - Litigation Matters with Richards, Watson & Gershon for a not exceed amount of $150,000; and,

 

B.  Authorizing the City Manager to execute the necessary documents.

DISCUSSION

The City Attorney’s Office is responsible for representing the City of Merced in all legal actions involving the City, unless it is determined that special counsel is needed for specific legal services. From time to time, there are litigation matters which the City requires legal representation utilizing the special skills and abilities of counsel specifically experienced in such areas.

 

The law firm of Richards Watson & Gershon (“RWG”) has specialized in public law for over 70 years and has legal expertise regarding litigation and eminent domain.  RWG has the resources to assist and represent the City of Merced in litigation matters that require their specialized expertise.

 

IMPACT ON CITY RESOURCES

Funding for these services is available within the City Attorney’s fiscal year 24-25 operating budget.
