REPORT IN BRIEF

Considers the adoption of a Resolution in support of the BIPOC LGBTQIA+ Community.

 

RECOMMENDATION

City Council - Adopt a motion adopting Resolution 2021-95, a Resolution of the City Council of the City of Merced, California, to support the black, indigenous, people of color (BIPOC) lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) Merced Community.

2.  Approve, subject to modifications as conditioned by Council; or,

3.  Deny the request completely; or,

4.  Refer back to staff for reconsideration of specific items as requested by Council; or,

5.  Continue item to a future Council meeting (date and time to be specified in City Council motion).

DISCUSSION

On July 19, 2021, Council Member Perez provided a presentation to the City Council to adopt a resolution in support of funding a Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual (LGBTQIA+) Resource Center.  As part of the presentation, a request of $75,000 was made of the City Council to fund the opening of a local BIPOC LGBTQIA+ Recourse Center.  Direction was provided to staff to explore various funding options and return to the City Council with a draft Resolution.

 

At the October 4, 2021 City Council meeting, staff was directed to revise and bring back the proposed resolution for consideration.
