SUBJECT: Review and Approve the Arts and Culture Advisory Commission’s Recommendations for the Caltrans Mural Art Project
REPORT IN BRIEF
The City Council will review and approve eight mural designs and design locations recommended by the Arts and Culture Advisory Commission for eight Caltrans under crossings in the City of Merced.
RECOMMENDATION
City Council - Adopt a motion advancing eight mural designs recommended by the Arts and Culture Advisory Commission for final review and funding approval by Caltrans.

DISCUSSION
As part of Govern Newsom’s Clean California initiative, Caltrans awarded a grant to the City of Merced to fund the Merced Gateway and Mural project. A Request for Proposal was issued on April 6, 2022 and seventeen (17) submissions were received by the May 6, 2022 deadline.
The Arts and Culture Advisory Commission appointed a subcommittee to review, score and recommend eight (8) mural designs for eight (8) Caltrans under crossings in the City of Merced. At a special meeting, held on June 15, 2022, the subcommittee’s recommendations were presented to the Commission. The Commission is recommending eight (8) designs and locations for the City Council’s consideration and approval.
Attached for Council’s considerations are the Commission’s recommended art proposals in order of rank and undercrossing locations.
