REPORT IN BRIEF

Considers approving a change in the meeting time for Planning Commission meetings from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

RECOMMENDATION

City Council - Adopt a motion adopting Resolution 2023-67, A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Merced, California, changing the regularly meeting time for Planning Commission meetings.

Body

ALTERNATIVES

1.  Approve, as recommended by the Planning Commission and staff; or,

2.  Approve subject to modifications as conditioned by City Council; or,

3.  Deny; or,

4.  Refer back to staff for reconsideration of specific items (to be addressed in the

     motion); or,

5.  Continue to a future meeting (date and time to be specified in the motion).

AUTHORITY

Merced Municipal Code Section 2.20.050 - Meetings.  The time, day and place for the holding of regular meetings of the planning commission shall be as set from time to time by resolution of the City Council.

DISCUSSION

The Planning Commission currently holds its meetings on the first and third Wednesdays of the month following a City Council meeting.  These meetings start at 7:00 p.m.  In an effort to be consistent with the start time for City Council meetings, increase public engagement, and decrease the cost of overtime for staff members attending these meetings, staff is requesting City Council approve a change to the start time of Planning Commission meetings from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  The Planning Commission members were asked about making this change and there was no opposition to the change.  If the City Council chooses to approve this request, the change would be effective September 20, 2023.

IMPACT ON CITY RESOURCES

It’s anticipated that the change in the start time for Planning Commission meetings would reduce overtime costs.
