REPORT IN BRIEF
Requests direction for filling the newly created vacancy on the Parks & Recreation Commission.

RECOMMENDATION
City Council - Adopt a motion directing staff to notice a vacancy on the Recreation and Parks Commission due to the resignation of Shawn Dwyer and to seek applicants for the position.

DISCUSSION

Background
The Recreation and Parks Commission, created by City Charter, acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council in all matters pertaining to recreation and parks; considers the annual budget for recreation and parks, and assists in the planning of recreation programs. The Commission consists of seven members who are qualified voters of the City of Merced. Meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m.

Current Vacancy
The Clerk's Office has been notified that Shawn Dwyer resigned his position on the Recreation and Parks Commission due to scheduling conflicts with his appointment to the Merced County Civil Grand Jury. Mr. Dwyer had been appointed to an unexpired term. The term ends on July 1, 2017. This is the second vacancy on the Recreation & Parks Commission, as Jeannette Carey's term ended July 1, 2015 and she was ineligible for reappointment. The Commission's roster is attached for your reference.
