DISCUSSION
The National Night Out Celebration is a national celebration that the Merced Police Department participates in annually. The celebration occurs on the first Tuesday in the month of August. This year’s celebration occurred on August 2, 2016 at Applegate Park. National Night Out is a celebration of law enforcement and the community. Neighborhood Watch is the program that is accented during the celebration.
The coordination of the celebration is done by the Merced Police Department. The back bones of this event are the volunteers from the Kiwanis Kiddie Land and the Merced Police Department Explorer Scouts and VIPS. The event is also heavily supported by the City of Merced Public Works Department (Trees, Parks, Water, and Building Maintenance).
This year, we received donations for the event from the McLane Company, MERCO Credit Union, Merced Toyota, Jim Costa for Congress Committee, Merced School Employees Federal Credit Union, Merced Chevrolet, Rabobank, Target, ADT, Food 4 Less, and Merced County Food Bank. The event was also supported by over 50 local organizations and businesses including: City of Merced Public Works Department, Lowe’s, Milan Institute, Life Line for Healing, Boys & Girls Club, Golden Valley Health Center, Building Healthy Communities and Farmers Insurance, just to name a few.
The donations from MERCO Credit Union, Merced Toyota, Jim Costa for Congress Committee, Merced School Employees Federal Credit Union, Merced Chevrolet and Rabobank will be used to offset expenses related to the 2016 event.
The Merced Police Department is grateful to all the donors, volunteers, vendors, staff and citizens who helped make the 2016 National Night Out Celebration a celebration Merced can be proud of and can look forward to for many years to come.
