DISCUSSION
Since 1984, the Merced Fire Department has coordinated training with the Merced College District to provide training to staff at all levels, including Officer Development programs. The in-house training leads not only to traditional certifications for fire related subject matter, but also college credits towards an Associate's Degree or Fire Technology certification.

In September, 2002, an agreement was entered whereby the Merced College District would reimburse the city for in-house training activities at the City of Merced Fire Department. Since that time the college and the fire department have continually partnered in this endeavor, which benefits the college, its students, the fire department and its employees.

The agreement becomes effective July 1, 2017 for the 2017-2018 academic school year, and may be extended in one-year increments by mutual agreement through June 30, 2022.
