SUBJECT: Direction on Establishing an Arts Commission within the City of Merced
REPORT IN BRIEF
On August 7, 2017, Council Member Martinez presented the benefits of creating a Public Arts Commission in the City of Merced. During the discussion, staff were given direction to research this topic and return to Council for further direction.
RECOMMENTATION
Provide staff with further direction on the creation and implementation of a City Arts Commission.

DISCUSSION
Over the last two months, staff have researched what other jurisdictions have established and the benefits provided within those communities. Staff are returning to the Council to share information and to get further direction from the Council to establish an Arts Commission. The attached slide presentation requests direction needed to move forward with the creation of the commission including, but not limited to, the number of commissioners, terms, funding, roles and duties, and the use of City Staff to assist the commission.
