2.  Adopt with amendments (specified in motion); or,

3.  Deny.

AUTHORITY

City of Merced Charter, Section 200.

DISCUSSION

Merced was selected as the site of the tenth University of California campus to serve a historically underserved region by improving access to higher education and to spur economic growth.

The UC Board of Regents currently has no members who reside or have strong ties to the San Joaquin Valley following the expired terms of former Regents Odessa Johnson in 2012 and Fred Ruiz in 2016.

Adoption of the Resolution urges the Governor to appoint someone from the valley or with strong ties to the valley in order to have a representative on the board who understands and represents the San Joaquin Valley.
