REPORT IN BRIEF
Consider accepting nominations and appointing two applicants to the Planning Commission.
RECOMMENDATION
City Council - Adopt a motion accepting nominations and appointing two individuals to the Planning Commission with one term ending date of July 1, 2022 and one term ending date of July 1, 2021.

ALTERNATIVES
1. Accept nominations and appoint two individuals to the Planning Commission; or,
2. Appoint one individual to the Planning Commission and direct staff to resume recruitment of applicants for the remaining vacancy; or,
3. Make no appointments and direct staff to resume the recruitment of applicants.
AUTHORITY
Article VII, Sections 700, 702, 702.1, 707 and 708 of the Merced City Charter.
DISCUSSION
There is currently one vacancy on the Planning Commission and one term ending on July 1, 2018. Planning Commissioner Kevin Smith resigned from his seat on January 19, 2018 when he moved outside of the City limits and Planning Commissioner Travis Colby's term will end on July 1, 2018.
The City Clerk's Office was directed by Council at the April 16 meeting to notice the vacancy created by the resignation of Mr. Smith and Mr. Colby's upcoming term completion.
The City Clerk's Office has received four applications (attached) for the Planning Commission vacancies.
The applicants are:
Rick McMillion
Scott Drexel
Janice Schmidt
Samuel Rashe
The current roster for the Commission is attached. The matter of appointment to this Commission is now before the Council.
