REPORT IN BRIEF

To expedite the conduct of business at this important policy-making meeting, each City Council is asked to designate a voting representative and two alternates who will be present at the meeting.

City Council - Adopt a motion designating one voting delegate and two alternate voting delegates to the League of California Cities Annual Conference General Business Meeting, scheduled for Friday afternoon, September 14, 2018 in Long Beach, CA.

Body

ALTERNATIVES

1.  Designate voting representatives as outlined in the staff report; or

2.  Designate other City officials attending the conference; or

3.  Take no action.

AUTHORITY

The membership takes action on conference resolutions at the Annual Business Meeting.  Annual Conference resolutions guide cities and the League in efforts to improve the quality, responsiveness, and vitality of local government in California.  Therefore, it is very important that all cities be represented at the Business Meeting on Friday, September 14, 2018, in Long Beach.

CITY COUNCIL PRIORITIES

DISCUSSION

To expedite the conduct of business at this important policy-making meeting, each City Council is asked to designate a voting representative and two alternates who will be present at the Annual Business meeting.  The League by-laws provide that each city is entitled to one vote in matters affecting municipal or League policy.

If the Mayor or a member of the City Council is in attendance at the Annual Business Meeting, it is expected that one of these officials will be designated as the voting delegate.  However, if the City Council does not have a registered delegate at the conference, but will be represented by other City officials, one of the other officials can be designated the voting delegate or alternate.

IMPACT ON CITY RESOURCES

No appropriation of funds is needed.
