REPORT IN BRIEF

RECOMMENDATION
City Council - Adopt a motion approving Project Mariposa, a neighborhood collaborative project between the City of Merced, the Perezchica Family, and Gracey Elementary School to create a butterfly habitat in Dennis Chavez Park.

DISCUSSION
The Perezchica Family, in collaboration with neighborhood residents and Gracey Elementary School, is seeking approval to install planting beds to create natural habitat for painted lady butterflies in Dennis Chavez Park. The Perezchica Family will work with the City of Merced Parks Department and interested neighbors to prepare the beds with plants that support butterfly feeding. City parks staff will contribute to the project by locating and flagging sprinkler lines and sprinkler heads before the project begins.
