REPORT IN BRIEF

Considers awarding a construction contract in the amount of $511,557.52, funded by Measure V, SB1 and Enterprise funds, for City Project No. 120048 “M” Street - Childs Avenue to 8th Street Roadway Improvements.

 

RECOMMENDATION

City Council - Adopt a motion:

 

A.  Awarding the “M” Street - Childs Avenue to 8th Street Roadway Improvements, Project 120048, to TBS Contractors, in the amount of $511,557.52, and,

 

B.  Authorizing the City Manager or the Assistant City Manager to execute the necessary documents and to approve change orders not to exceed 10% of the total contract.

AUTHORITY

Charter of the City of Merced, Article XI, Section 1109 - Contracts on Public Works, and Merced Municipal Code Chapter 3.04, Article IV - Public Works Contracts.

 

CITY COUNCIL PRIORITIES

As provided for in the 2019-20 Adopted Budget.

 

DISCUSSION

The work to be done consists, in general, of installation of an 8-inch water main on “M” Street, from Childs Avenue to 6th Street, and a grind and overlay of the roadway from Childs Avenue to 8th Street. Contract items include: traffic control, trench for new water main, trench backfill, grinding 3-inches of existing roadway, overlay of 3-inches with asphalt concrete, re-stripe and final cleanup.

 

Staff prepared plans and specifications, and bids were opened on January 28, 2020, with a total of six bid submission:

4. Mid Cal Pipeline & Utilities, Inc.                     $ 572,966.79

The engineer’s estimate for construction was $577,158.90

 

The following is the proposed budget for the project:

This project will require the contractor to notify property owners by door hangers and barricades of when work will be done to ensure vehicles are removed from the street.

 

IMPACT ON CITY RESOURCES

This project was established as a Capital Improvement Project to be funded Measure V, SB1 and Enterprise funds. Accounts 557-1106-637.65-00-120048, 078-1145-637.65-00-120048, and 450-1104-637.65-00-120048 contain sufficient funding to complete the project.
