REPORT IN BRIEF

Considers awarding a construction contract in the amount of $1,839,263.00 funded by Sewer Enterprise funds for City Project No. 117020 - Gerard Avenue Sewer from Highway 99 to Water Well 10-R2 (Kibby Road).

 

RECOMMENDATION

City Council - Adopt a motion:

 

A.  Awarding the Gerard Avenue sewer from Highway 99 to Water Well 10-R2 (Kibby Road), Project 117020, to Rolfe Construction Company, Inc., in the amount of $1,839,263.00 and,

 

B.  Authorizing the Interim City Manager to execute the necessary documents and to approve change orders not to exceed 10% of the total contract.

AUTHORITY

Charter of the City of Merced, Article XI, Section 1109 - Contracts on Public Works, and Merced Municipal Code Chapter 3.04, Article IV - Public Works Contracts.

 

CITY COUNCIL PRIORITIES

As provided for in the 2020-21 Adopted Budget.

 

DISCUSSION

The work to be done consists of the removal of the existing sewer trunk main and the installation of a new sewer trunk main on/adjacent to Gerard Avenue from Highway 99 to Well Site 10-R2 (Kibby Road). 

Staff prepared plans and specifications, and bids were opened on October 6, 2020, with a total of three (3) bid submissions:

 

1.                     Rolfe Construction Company, Inc.                     $ 1,839,263.00

2.                     Mid Cal Pipeline Utilities, Inc.                     $ 2,406,799.00

3.                     Mozingo Construction, Inc.                     $ 3,655,044.00

The engineer’s estimate for construction was $1,673,860.50

 

The following is the proposed budget for the project:

    Construction

$     $1,839,263.00

    Contingency

$     $   183,926.30

    Engineering, Testing & Inspection

$     $     70,000.00

      TOTAL:

$     $2,093,189.30

 

This project will require the contractor to notify property owners by door hangers and barricades of when work will be done to ensure the residents and business owners are aware of the construction.

 

IMPACT ON CITY RESOURCES

This project was established as a Capital Improvement Project to be funded with Sewer Enterprise funds. Funding is available to complete the project.
