Body

DISCUSSION

The City of Merced holds the ability to advocate for policy that the city determines would be beneficial to its interest.  Because of this, the city has designed and adopted a legislative platform as a general guide for the policies that the city believes best suits its interests.

The City of Merced is also able to advocate support for propositions on the state ballot if the city believes supporting the proposition would be in the best interest of the city. A previous and notable example of this was in 2008 when the City Council voted to approve a resolution supporting the passage of Proposition 99.

Now, as an election draws near with numerous state propositions on the ballot, a request has been made to determine if supporting Proposition 15 would fit within the parameters of the city's legislative platform and whether advocating support for its passage would be reasonable in furthering the city's policy interests.
