RECOMMENDATION
City Council - Adopt a motion approving Resolution 2023-03, A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Merced, California, Approving the Spaghetti Acres Honorary Neighborhood Residential Historic District Designation.

DISCUSSION
The Merced Downtown Neighborhood Association (DNA) is requesting the City Council create an Honorary Historic Neighborhood District for Spaghetti Acres. Spaghetti Acres is generally defined as homes between R St and Bear Creek, and 18th and 25th Streets.

The Merced DNA believes this designation would serve to recognize the historic character of the neighborhood and call attention to the rich history of the homes. The attached proposal includes a section on Spaghetti Acres' vivid history (Attachment 1.)

The designation would not require any zoning changes or place any land use restrictions on property owners within the district, would not impose any restrictions on homeowners, or prevent any future changes or modifications to the structures. There would be no changes in property taxes. Any signage to reflect the designation would be paid for by the residents after the design was approved by City Staff.
