DISCUSSION

The City of Merced has been approved for an equipment grant from USTA NorCal to implement a tennis program H.I.T.S (Honesty, Integrity, Teamwork, Sportsmanship).  H.I.T.S. is a low-cost/free tennis program for kids 10 and under that incorporates the fundamentals of a team sport with life skills enrichment. With support from the USTA NorCal, H.I.T.S. is a fun and easy program that includes training and resources to run a tennis program at our local tennis courts, blacktop or indoor gym.  This summer, we play on holding four tennis session, two weeks for each session. There will be a total of two session for H.I.T.S. 1 (Beginner) and two H.I.T.S. 2 (Intermediate). Each session can accommodate up to 15 youth, hoping to serve at least 60 youth by the end of the summer. Program will take place at Applegate Park on the Teal Top Hockey courts.

The department anticipated a $500.00 grant award and already had that amount within the 22/23 adopted budget. An additional $250.00 was awarded and requires an appropriation.

IMPACT ON CITY RESOURCES

Once it is accepted and appropriated, this $250 will be available within the FY2022-23 budget to purchase tennis equipment for summer programming.
