DISCUSSION

The West end of Fahrens Park is home to the only Disc Golf Course within the City of Merced. Originally designated for 18 holes, the course has grown to 21 holes. The course has become a popular destination, known for its stunning backdrop provided by Black Rascal Creek, Fahrens Creek and one of Merced’s several eucalyptus groves. The original amenities organized to support the sport have aged and now require upgrades. Merced County Disc Golf Club has provided a donation proposal to replace the current tee pads with upgraded cement tee pads. This upgrade provides consistent footing for players year-round, enhancing their performance and safety. The proposal includes the installation of “alternative pads” for female and junior players as well. These alternative tee pads cater to players of different skill levels ensuring that the course remains inclusive and welcoming to diverse participants and skill levels. The proposal also includes the addition of 6 new holes to the undeveloped area of the park. Expanding the current 21-hole disc golf layout with the addition of six new holes allows the City of Merced to host a championship-level course. The upgrade offers advantages ranging from elevated playability and the potential to host high level tournaments while still encouraging local recreational or leisure play.

Labor for the installation of the new tee pads will be supplied by Merced Disc Golf Club members with project review and permitting being provided by City of Merced staff. Materials to be provided by MCDGC include:

                     Cement:19 Yards

                     Wood (Forms)

                     Stakes (Forms)

All supplies required for the pour and installation of the concrete will also be provided by MCDGC.

IMPACT ON CITY RESOURCES

The City will continue to provide routine park maintenance at the location.
