REPORT IN BRIEF
An application has been received to consider renaming a room within the Merced Multi Cultural Arts Center. The current name of Black Box Theatre would be renamed the K & R Hansen Theatre. The application has been reviewed by the Director of Parks and Community Services for requirements set forth in Administrative Policy A-20- Administrative and was found to be compliant with all requirements and without any identifiable conflict of interest. The application has been submitted by Mr. Daniel Baladad, current MCAC President. The subcommittee of Recreation and Parks Committee members as well as City Council members (2) must agree upon a formal recommendation regarding the application. If approved, the recommendation will be placed before City Council for a final decision.

An application has been received to consider renaming the Youth Sports Complex. The current name of Youth Sports Complex would be renamed in honor of Dave Nannini but an official name has yet to be determined. The application has been reviewed by the Director of Parks and Community Services for requirements set forth in Administrative Policy A-20- Administrative and was found to be compliant with all requirements and without any identifiable conflict of interest. The Subcommittee is reporting on the development of a catalog of trainings to be sought and obtained by staff and partners that will be working with youth on behalf of the City of Merced Parks and Recreation Department. Specifically, this series of trainings will be used to support the preparation of City of Merced staff identified as mentors to support the Proposition 64 program.

Provide feedback and insight as to the content of trainings outlined by the subcommittee and the suggestion of outlining the type of organization (internal, external or both) that the catalog should be offered to support their preparation to serve the youth of the City of Merced. In 2021 the lease agreement for McNamara Youth Center had expired and the City released a Request For Interest (RFI) from community groups who had a desire to provide community based, youth specific, after school programming in that location. The City received two proposals. After reviewing the proposals in relation to department goals and City Council priorities it is the recommendation of Parks and Recreation Department that the City agree to lease the McNamara Community Center to Students With Aspiring Goals (SWAG). The department is seeking the Commissions approval of this recommendation and the submission to City Council for approval.

The Boys and Girls Club of Merced County has expressed interest in the continued use of the McCombs Youth Center to provide afterschool programming, summer camps, and community wide events at the McCombs Youth Center. The department is seeking the Commissions approval of this recommendation and the submission to City Council for approval. The term of the lease will be for one year with an option to extend for an additional two years on a year to year basis.
